Like the many other tens of thousands of popular culture lovers who attended this years sold-out MCM London Comic Con, we had an amazing weekend too!
Although we were silently clad in our all-white ‘Guilty Remnant‘ get-up from HBO’s sci-fi TV show (The Leftovers), the convention itself was brilliantly colourful, vibrantly loud and chock full of amazing people! With a staggering amount wearing unreal hand-crafted costumes.
Attack on Titan was by far the most popular choice. Every which way you looked the Scouting Legion crest could be seen on someones back/leg/arm/ass! Regardless though, it was hard to ignore the universe-spreading variety and the great lengths other con-folk went to accurately create their chosen characters likeness.
We were packin’ some serious Return to Fleet merchies ^^ with our first on the ground free l00t drop – which a good chunk of con-goers got to dip their hands into! T-Shirts, stickersss and bags, O-MY!
Having arrived nice and early from our flight we jumped straight into the hulking queue which wrapped its way right around the Excel Convention Centre and lasted more than a few minutes. That was no bother though! as there was so much to look at and loads of nice people to talk to.
Once inside the sheer volume of people and size of the set-up was really awesome to behold! Starting in the food hall we made our way out and around the rows of trader stalls full of nostalgic collectables, hand-crafted geeky goodies, t-shirts, toys and assorted goodies. Board and video games demonstrations, art areas, e-sports stages, indie comic stands and panel talk stages were just some of the attractions to which you could ogle on your journey.
If competition is the name of your game, over the course of the three days, you could watch the League of Legends 4 Nations invitational qualifiers and final. Or be visually astounded by the Euro-Cosplay Championship finalists on the main theatre stage, (catch up on the twitch recap below).
Each night after the show there was a great buzz with crowds of people hanging around and keeping the session afire until the wee hours of the morning.
Looking forward to next years event already, which now it seems will be even bigger and better again! Over 110k people came through the entrance over the course of the weekend. In response to the bigger number of nerf herders! ;) blasting their way to the Con – MCM co-organiser, Bryan Cooney had this to say, “We’re delighted that so many people made the trip down to Comic Con this weekend,” “The show was 12,000 m2 bigger than in May but we still needed every inch of it, with more movie, television, games, comics, anime and cosplay content on display than ever before — not to mention a great special guest line-up. We’re not going to sit on our laurels, though; the next MCM London Comic Con will expand to run over three full days, giving comic con fans even more to enjoy.”
Our camera was at the ready the whole time and over 180 snaps have been compiled below for your viewing pleasure. Hope you enjoy and thanks for visiting RTF.
